Blood Orange On the Tracks: Sour IPA

The August Small Batch can release — and record of-the-month — are here to “give you shelter from the storm”. We dare say it’s an instant candidate for the Catawba Rock & Roll Beer Hall of Fame.

Blood Orange On the Tracks is a tribute to the Bard himself, Mr. Bob Dylan, in honor of his recent 80th birthday. As you may have noticed, the label closely resembles the cover art of his classic 1975 album, Blood On the Tracks. Here are the proverbial liner notes:

This inspired marriage of beer styles starts with a Hazy IPA base, fermented with our house Cloud Cover yeast strain for maximum juice, then dry-hopped heavily with German Perle, Amarillo, and Citra.

A separate tank was filled with a crushable tart wheat ale, soured in the kettle with lactobacillus, and lightly hopped with more German Perle in the whirlpool.

The two delicious liquids were then blended together, dry-hopped again, and rested on a truckload of blood oranges and raspberries, completing this alchemy of flavor with layers of citrus, mango, peach, and a burst of wild berry gummies.

The result is a mash-up of everything we love in a modern IPA: It’s tart, sweet, hazy, hoppy, fruity, and juicy — all in one delicious pint. Cheers, Mr. Tambourine Man!
