Mask Czech: Czech-style Dark Lager
Mask Czech is our first ever Tmavé Pivo, Czech-style dark lager. This Old World beer style predates the Bohemian Pilsner, yet outside of Prague it’s much more obscure than its famous golden cousin. Although rare to American beer drinkers, this dark lager is actually quite approachable with a familiar flavor profile. Think of a German Schwarzbier that’s shifted “a little rounder, a little maltier, a little smoother, with a little more body.” Malt-forward and complex with just a hint of roast. 5.5% ABV (crowler)
If you close your eyes, you can almost imagine yourself at U Fleků, Prague’s oldest brewery (since 1499), with a pint of tmavé pivo and a plate of goulash, lost in your favorite Kafka novel…
Oh, but before you get too lost in your imaginary beer travels, be sure to Czech your mask — unfortunately it is still 2020 here in the real world. C’est la vie, but at least we can still enjoy delicious lager!
Special thanks to CLIF Bar & Company for partnering with us on this beer and providing fuel for all our outdoor adventures — and for inspiring an excellent energy bar-beer pairing, too!
